California Dreamin'

Wow sis, this is an awesome entry. Everytime I hear "America," by Diamond, "California Dreamin'" by the Mamas and the Papas, or any song by Juluka, I almost always get extremely teary eyed. It's so funny how young we both were when we moved, but how affected I still feel by the move. It's also interesting that I still feel that I am not truly American, I feel South African at heart. Wow! What an emotional day!!!
lilbear, it never ceases to amaze me how deep you can be and how well you are able to express these emotions and experiences.

it's an auspicious anniversary, but i'm sure also a good time to reflect, as you have, on the way this has impacted your life.

but you do make a notable comment in how hopeful american society is -- it does motivate one to really see what impact they can make in their community. it's nice that your parents came here and didn't just go sit in front of the television and eat potato chips. they wanted to instill an appreciation for you as to what is the right thing.

i think of a great quote from harry potter, paraphrased here: sometimes you have to make the choice between what is right and what is easy. that seems so obvious, but your parents chose a harder path by leaving behind all they knew and that that their children knew to raise them with certain values.

i'm glad they made the choice -- i feel privileged to know you.

Lilbear a very articulate and inspiring entry, and the latest gem I have found here on Vox. You wondered if you had anything to offer back on your first Vox post . . . . wonder no more . . . . you have much to offer! JP
